Services

WHAT SERVICES DO I OFFER?

There is unending competition between authors, but I believe that we need to stick together and help each other out. As someone who has self-published four novels, I know a thing or two about how to get things done! I’ve designed covers, taken editing courses, and even created my own publishing imprint. I offer the chance to find much what you need in one place, so you don’t need to go searching for different people that offer different services. The best part is, I only charge a fraction of what others would charge! Just trying to share the love with my writers-in-arms 🙂 See below for the types of services I offer!

EDITING

Types of Editing Services:

  • Copyediting – Copyediting is correcting not just grammar, but sentence fluency, and story consistency. It is helping the story to flow and make sense.
  • Proofreading – Proofreading is the final step before publishing. It is assumed that your draft is almost perfect and has already been edited and looked over multiple times. Proofreading is just checking for typos and grammar mistakes.

Preparing Your Manuscript:

  • Your manuscript must be in a Microsoft Word or Google Doc.
  • Everything must be 12 pt. Times New Roman font, double spaced with one in. margins.
  • Include a title page with your contact information in the top left corner, the title of the book in the center, along with your name.

What I Charge:

  • Proofreading, is $1.25 per page.
  • Copyediting is $1.50 per page.
  • Turnover time is about 2 weeks for every 100 pages.

COVER DESIGN

Types of Cover Design Services:

  • E-book Cover
  • Paperback Cover
  • Hardback Cover
  • Audiobook Cover

What to Prepare:

  • Find four book covers that have the look you are going for.
  • Decide on the colors you are interested in including.
  • For paperbacks and hardbacks, prepare a back cover blurb along with any professional, editorial reviews you’d like included.
  • Think out the style you are looking for. Do you prefer just text, graphics, stock photography?
  • Know which platform you intend to publish through. (KDP, Barnes & Noble, Ingramspark, etc.) Different platforms have different cover requirements.
  • For paperbacks and hardcover books: Know the dimensions of your book, and how many pages it will be. (This means you will need to have already formatted the interior. See the next section if you have not.) It helps if you have already uploaded the interior to the platform of your choice.

What I charge:

  • E-books: $100
  • Paperbacks: $150
  • Hardbacks: $175
  • 20% off the total if you order all three.
  • Turnover Time: about 1 week per format

INTERIOR LAYOUT & DESIGN

Choose the type of service:

  •  Paperback – This includes organizing the interior of the book in the correct size proportions for the size of the book, mirrored margins, possible table of contents, and designing it in an aesthetic way. This includes font choices, spacing, page numbering, and chapter heading design.
  • E-Book – As most devices change the formatting of books based on user preference, this design will be less aesthetic and more functional to carry across devices. Final files will be shared in EPUB format.

Prepare Your Manuscript:

  • Your manuscript MUST be completely ready for publication. It has already been edited and proofread, and no changes are necessary.
  • Share your manuscript in a Microsoft Word document without any special fonts. Only 12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced, and 1 in. margins.
  • Share the completed book cover(s) if ready to help with sizing.
  • Share the specifications of your paperback book dimensions.
  • Know the style you are looking for. (Fonts, chapter headings, drop-caps etc.) Share a picture of 4 paperback book interiors that have a design you would like to emulate.

What I Charge:

  • Paperback: $100
  • E-Book: $25
  • Turnover Time: about 2 weeks for paperback, shorter for e-book.

PUBLISHER IMPRINT AND LOGO

What an Imprint Is:

  • When you self-publish a book, your name automatically shows up as the publisher. However, some self-published authors choose what is called an “imprint” name that represents their brand. This name then shows up as the publisher.
  • The benefit of an imprint name is that it is not obvious that your book is self-published, as it has a publisher name that is not your own.
  • One of my services is to make you a part of Chicken Taco Publishing, which is my imprint.

Why Be a Part of Chicken Taco Publishing:

  •  The name is registered and copyrighted as is the logo.
  • More books joining the brand would build recognition, which would help both me and you.
  • You would not have to come up with your own imprint name.
  • You could use my logo on your book cover.

Requirements for Approval:

  • I will only accept manuscripts with quality writing and cover designs. Your work must be well edited and appear professional.
  • If I don’t feel that your book fits with my brand, I will politely decline.
  • It I approve of your book, you will then be able to use the name “Chicken Taco Publishing” as your publisher name wherever necessary. You will also be able to use the logo on your book cover.
  • if you include the logo on the book cover, you must send me the PDF so I can approve that it is not blurry or positioned incorrectly. Blurry or crooked images reflect poorly on the name. (If I designed your cover for you, I can add the logo to the cover myself.)

What I Charge:

  • After approval: $35

*THIS CHARGE AND APPROVAL ONLY APPLIES THE BOOK YOU SUBMITTED. If you write another book, you will need to resubmit that one for approval, though I will wave the $35 fee.*
